This unique document was shared with us thanks to the staff of the Adenauer Haus in 2022. The widow of an anonymous German journalist kept the handwritten copy of the eulogy written by David Ben-Gurion and was in her possession for many years. Ben-Gurion had arrived especially to attend the funeral of Konrad Adenauer in April 1967. It is a personal testimony of the high regard Ben-Gurion held for this world leader, beyond a "regular" connection between two statesmen. The writing indicates that it was written spontaneously shortly before the funeral. In it he admires Adenauer as "the man who tried and succeeded to lift up the German people from the depth of crime and misery" and ends with the hope that "his successors will continue the efforts of Dr Adenauer to insure justice and peace for all nations". This document symbolizes the close friendship between the two leaders which set the scene for long term ties between Israel and Germany (East and West).
